Cass Delmare joins me on this poem where we explore those early moments with a loved one when you briefly realize that you're alone, away from the world and daily responsibilities.
This collaborative piece captures the intimacy of a temporary escape—maybe one of many.
Lethargic awakening this morning, a realization without warning: embraced by our pillows and blankets' smells, there's only you and me, there's no-one else. The cradle creaks, the ceiling sighs, no cries, no steps, no lullabies– our future waits behind closed doors, just us, the heat, and nothing more, still tethered to the past we knew, not yet remade by someone new. The clock ticks and tocks but doesn't chase, we stretch out… vines in borrowed space, the world outside forgets to spin, this hush before our days begin, beneath your breath, the seasons wait, like children tugging at love's gate. The morning leaks through window sills, yet nothing breaks, and nothing spills, your lips still warm from dreams we've shared, your hand in mine, unarmored, bared, a pause before the noise comes in just your breath felt beneath my chin. This comforting warmth as our host, we're hostages to this bedpost, night's aftertaste, so exquisite, this late affair, so explicit with eros spell still unbroken, our safeword stays unspoken. Post-rest weariness drawing near, time's adrift and so am I, dear, fond twilight memories divine, sunrise bodies also entwined, one more kiss, one more illusion, no beginnings, no conclusions. Lethargic awakening this morning, a realization without warning: there's only you and me, there's no-one else, just kisses as ephemeral farewells.
There's something magical about those drowsy morning realizations when you suddenly notice how present you both are. Do you have moments like these that feel worth stretching to their limits?
