I wrote this poem for Bear Sage’s Tides of Chance collection.
Keep the Change
New beginning—
like every day before—
like every year before.
And still we celebrate—
a new change
with nothing new about it—
as change is always present.
New beginning—
like every year before
and every year coming.
And still they celebrate—
the same change
with nothing new about it—
as change is always the same.
New beginning—
like every new ending—
like every old demise.
And I can’t celebrate—
I remain
unchanged by merciless tides—
as pain swallows me again.

Thank you to Bear Sage for inviting me to participate and offering the prompt inspiration.
Bear asked us to write about Tides of Change. Some of us wade in, some let go. And some of us stand on the shore, watching the water move around us, untouched. Which are you?
