My thoughts are: is this love? Or just plain sex? With love none of this would be considered filthy conduct because making love is the beauty of two becoming one in mind body and spirit along with pleasure. Sex is just sex, only for pleasure has nothing to do with the spirit I guess you could call it “filthy” conduct. Just a thought from reading this. It was a good write makes one think.
Absolutely fair distinction. The poem is open to interpretation so you're open to fill those gaps and ask those questions.
For me, the poem is more about the realization that things like attraction often start in early moments of a relationship, the poem is not meant to be specific about whether these people love each other or are merely sexually attracted to each other.
If you see it from the angle of two people just getting to know each other, then by all means, this is more about sex than love.
If you see it as attraction as the first step to a loving relationship, then this is also about love. We really don't know if this is the first conversation between these two people, or the 100th conversation between a couple that's been together for years, do we?
The language can also be playful - like a couple teasing each other, or it could be self-referential
I try to leave some elements of my poetry open to interpretation so different people can relate to it in different ways.
Thanks for reading and commenting, I'm glad you found it good and thought-provoking.
Well I’m not a good example. I married the person I loved didn’t have sex for sex because I truly believed that this most intimate and beautiful act should be between those who love each other & I lived in the age of “Love the one your with” in those turbulent eras of the 20th Century, where most everyone was having sex with people they really didn’t know. Just my thought and I realize I’m not the norm.
Poetry should capture the person in thought and to me you certainly fulfilled that process. 🕊️💕
Thank you for sharing your perspective - that's beautiful that you found that kind of love and stayed true to your values, I know it's not always easy but you did it.
And I really appreciate the compliment about the poetry. That's exactly what I hope for, creating something that gets people thinking and reflecting on their own experiences, or opens their eyes to someone else's experience. 🙏
💖💖💖"engaging in lovemaking from that first flirt
and blushing."
What did I tell you? Doesn't it feel familiar? 😂
I swear it sounded like an echo when I read your piece.
Thanks for reading and commenting. 😊
Totally! 👍🏻
